Since their 2024 debut, Ae! group (Aぇ! group) have been constantly circling my radar (and my playlists). Their look, their sound, their entire persona is distinctly different from almost every other group in the genre, including those within their own agency. Not only are they incredibly talented instrumentalists, but the members also take an active role in shaping and representing their own brand. And for their fifth single, ｢Emotion｣, they’ve turned up the heat.

First, I am almost 100% certain that the group’s main vocalist Seiya Suezawa (末澤誠也) is the closest thing we have to the voice of God on this earth.

Raw, emotional, and bursting with energy, there is no denying the sheer power behind his vocals, even if you don’t understand a single word of Japanese. Suezawa doesn’t just sing a note; he attacks it–and ｢Emotion｣ gives him exactly the kind of material where that voice can run absolutely wild.

Aggressive and deliberately designed to push the band’s musicianship further than before, ｢Emotion｣ is full-throttle from the moment it kicks into gear. It starts with a gentle keyboard melody, before the drums and guitars come crashing in to build a wall of sound around Suezawa’s ferociously animalistic vocals, not in an attempt to cage him, but amplify the sound. There’s a delicious tension between the instrumentation and his voice, as though the two are daring one another to go bigger, badder, faster, and harder than they ever have before.

｢Emotion｣ isn’t your typical idol track polished within an inch of its life; it’s alive. There’s frustration in it. Determination. Defiance. The song’s message centers on believing in yourself despite your imperfections and having the courage to carve out your own future, while the increasingly explosive arrangement makes that sentiment feel physical rather than merely lyrical. Built for the stage, ｢Emotion｣ is a song that, while  there’s no question the song is perfect on its own, won’t feel truly complete until the group is standing in front of thousands of screaming fans singing along.

And while Suezawa inevitably commands attention, ｢Emotion｣ works because Ae! group sounds exactly like what they are: a band. Yoshinori Masakado (正門良規), Ken Kojima (小島健), and Masaya Sano (佐野晶哉),aren’t just cute boys posing with instruments in the ground for a music video. They’re an honest group of full-blown rock stars.

While the music video dropped just moments ago on 16 September 2026, the physical single doesn’t arrive until 4 November and will be released in four main editions – all of which will include｢Emotion｣ alongside ｢この朝は (Kono Asa wa)｣, written and composed by legendary singer-songwriter Noriyuki Makihara (槇原敬之) and arranged by Kenichi Maeyamada (前山田健一), better known as Hyadain. The song has served as the theme for ABC TV’s morning program 『おはよう朝日です』(English: Good Morning Asahi)  since earlier this year.

From there, each edition gets its own exclusive third track. Limited A includes the fabulously titled ｢X’mas FAM!｣, Limited B offers the winter love song ｢White Love Story｣, Limited C gets ｢Mrs.Vampire｣, while the Regular Edition rounds things out with the long-awaited release of Junior-era track ｢Aッ!!!!!!｣.

The video content is similarly divided. Limited A includes the ｢Emotion｣ music video and its making-of documentary; Limited B gives ｢この朝は｣ the same treatment; and Limited C includes the special feature 『未完成なプロフィールを紡げ』 alongside a behind-the-scenes look at the ｢Emotion｣ photoshoot.

As a first taste of what’s coming in November, ｢Emotion｣ makes one hell of an argument for what Aぇ! group can do when the amps get turned up, and Suezawa is given permission to scream for the heavens.

Plus, he looks damn good flexing in a muscle shirt.
