It’s hard to believe I’ve already been in Tokyo for four months!

One of my biggest creative focuses has been writing pieces celebrating the reimaginings of some of the most beloved songs from the animated series Jem and the Holograms—re-recorded by the one and only Britta Phillips, who still sounds every bit as bright and effervescent as she did forty years ago. At the same time, I’ve been diving into the history of the iconic franchise, researching the cassette tapes that accompanied the original doll line and the fascinating story behind how those recordings became treasured collector’s items.

If I had my pick, what other songs would I love to hear reimagined? Would I give each one its own unique sound? With such an incredible catalog to choose from, narrowing it down is almost impossible.

Beyond Jem, I’ll also be sharing my thoughts on the Heated Rivalry soundtrack, Gawin Caskey’s debut solo single through RISER MUSIC, and the Korean drama The East Palace, which I recently had the chance to experience.

On a more personal note, I’m still working through a wave of emotions following the passing of a friend. When someone has been part of your life for 95% of it, grief doesn’t simply disappear overnight. I’m grateful to have so many creative projects to keep me busy and help channel those emotions into something positive.
