Besides making the move to Japan, one of my most favorite things about 2026 has been the comeback of one of my most favorite teenage pop groups A☆TEENS.
After surprising fans earlier this year with their first original single in more than two decades, 「Iconic」, the Swedish pop quartet have returned with another dose of nostalgia-coated pop, this time reimagining one of Sweden’s most beloved pop anthems: 「The Look」 from Roxette.
Released as 「You Got The Look」, Amit Paul, Dhani Lennevald, Marie Serneholt and Sara Lumholdt have transformed the 1988 classic into a bright, contemporary dance-pop track while preserving the infectious swagger that made the original such a global phenomenon.
Produced by hitmakers Albin Nedler and Kristoffer Fogelmark, the song celebrates the bubble-gum innocence of the groups past, while at the same time being completely comfortable in who they are as adults. A☆TEENS understand exactly who they are and their performance carries the effortless charm that can only come from artists who genuinely seem to be enjoying themselves.
For longtime fans, however, the real joy comes from hearing these four voices together again. A☆TEENS were never merely an ABBA cover group. At their peak, they became one of the defining international pop acts of the early 2000s, delivering infectious hits such as 「Mamma Mia」, 「Sugar Rush」, 「Floorfiller」, and 「Can’t Help Falling in Love」. Their reunion could have easily settled for nostalgia alone. Instead, 「You Got The Look」 feels like a statement. They may not be teenagers anymore, but they still have that same star power.
There will be more A☆TEENS soon so…
