Following the explosive success of their debut, Snow Man’s sophomore effort expanded the group’s sound, ambition, and identity in ways fans were only beginning to realize. Arriving on 7 October 2020, 『KISSIN’ MY LIPS / Stories』 marked the beginning of many major milestones for the nine-member unit, including their first venture into the double A-side format.

Leading the release was 「KISSIN’ MY LIPS」 was Snow Man’s first commercially distributed track performed entirely in English. Built around sleek synths, restrained vocals, and sharp, sensual choreography, the song presented the members less as fresh-faced rookies and more like polished pop stars ready for the international spotlight.
The era gained even more sophistication through the youngest member Raul’s inaugural high-fashion partnership with Dior, whose sleek imagery became deeply intertwined with the song’s mature aesthetic.

Balancing the sleek sophistication, the second half of the release 「Stories」, was the high-energy anthem selected as the 11th opening theme for the anime Black Clover. Where its counterpart leaned into restraint and sensuality, 「Stories」 surged forward with urgency, blending soaring vocals, rapid-fire choreography, and a cinematic soundscape tailor-made for the shōnen genre. The track highlighted a different side of Snow Man entirely, emphasizing power and momentum over polish while further proving their remarkable versatility.
For many international anime fans, the song also became a gateway into the world of Snow Man, introducing the nine-member act to audiences far beyond the traditional sphere of a typical Japanese idol group.
While the two title tracks showcased Snow Man’s growing scale and versatility, the coupling song 「君の彼氏になりたい。」 (English: “I Want to Be Your Boyfriend”) stole the hearts of many listeners, myself included. Playful, awkward, and overflowing with Snow Man charm, the track traded polished coolness for lovestruck vulnerability as the members stumbled through the frustrations of wanting to confess their feelings while lacking the courage to do so.
Its conversational lyrics and addictive chorus quickly turned the song into a fan favorite and, in the years that followed, it evolved into the first chapter of an ongoing trilogy of interconnected love songs, creating one of the most beloved recurring storylines in Snow Man’s discography.

Commercially, Snow Man’s sophomore outing proved that the explosive response to their debut was anything but a fluke. Debuting at the top of the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart, 『KISSIN’ MY LIPS / Stories』 moved more than 900,000 physical copies during its opening week, becoming one of Japan’s biggest-selling music singles of 2020. The accomplishment further cemented the group as a powerhouse within modern J-pop during an era when CD purchases across the global industry were steadily declining.
That momentum stretched far beyond chart performance, with the project embracing an international sound that hinted at ambitions outside the domestic market. Together, both title songs highlighted Snow Man’s rare ability to balance mass appeal with stylistic risk-taking, a combination that would continue shaping much of the act’s future trajectory.
And this was only their second release.

There will be more Snow Man soon so…
