Earlier today, Johnny & Associates announced Koichi Domoto of the idol group KinKiKids would be taking on the role of Willy Wonka in the Japan run of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical. Based on the beloved children’s book of the same name (1964, George Allen & Unwin publishing), the iconic Wonka was immortalized by the legendary Gene Wilder n the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (personally, the Oompa Loompa’s still give me nightmares).

Based on the promotional poster, Domoto will have zero trouble putting on that iconic hat. He looks FABULOUS!

Hitting the stage in October, I may just have enough time to get my passport and finances ready in time to see it, because no doubt it’s going to be creative confectionary of colorful curiosities – and I’m here for it!

More soon so…

Stay Tuned!
