Cutie Pie 2 You: First Thoughts

Cutie Pie was one of my favorites of 2022, and I loved it so much that I purchased BOTH box sets from eThaiCD. So, when I heard there would be a season 2, I couldn’t have been more excited! I loved the idea of seeing more from the lives of Kuea and Lian and all the other characters who made Cutie Pie The Series such an enjoyable adventure.

The episode starts with Kuea’s graduation. Now 21, he has his whole life ahead of him. Then, the story goes back and tells a bit about what life was like in college. The story included unwanted attention from a superior at the company he was working at and the brushing off of what was clearly sexual harassment by the boss with just a “Hey, we’re all guys here!” Which, honestly, was very much an “Eww, gross!” moment. Nuer and Syn seem to be at an awkward place in their relationship, while Yi and Khondiao cannot keep their hands off one another. There were some sweet moments and also some comedically sexy ones as well. I will note that many of these series are now going out of their way to make sure consent is made abundantly clear, which is terrific!

I did enjoy the first episode. I really did. It just didn’t grip me the way the first episode of season one did. The writing was good, the acting was superb, and the music was fun. It just didn’t have that ZING factor – and that’s partially my fault. I may not have been in the right frame of mind to enjoy it as much as I could have. However, this is a “First Thoughts” piece, so I wanted to be honest before I go back and follow up with episode 2 – after which I will give my “Midway Thoughts.”
