Tay Tawan has one of the most beautiful smiles on the planet. He also has one of the most innocent and endearing personalities of any of the Thai actors I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know over the past year and a half. Charismatic and charming, he’s also got a bit of a mischievous side. Which is why I’ve chosen him as this week’s Man Crush Monday.
Born Tawan Vihokratana on 20 July 1991, even as a child the now thirty-one-year actor has said he’s been referred to as an old soul.
His journey into the entertainment industry began in 2014 as one of the hosts of Bang Channel’s Five Live Fresh. Later, that same year he appear in the series Room Alone, which earned him widespread recognition after making it in CLEO Thailand’s 50 Most Eligible Bachelors of 2014.
In 2016 Tay was cast as Pete in the GMMTV drama Kiss: The series. A supporting character, Pete was a pompous but popular high school student who was, for lack of a better word: A complete and total Asshole! Always fighting, and just being generally unlikeable. Tay continued the role in 2018’s follow-up series Kiss Me Again where Pete discovered his attraction to the incredibly sweet Kao (New Thitiphoom) and the two started secretly dating. Though only supporting characters, #PeteKao and #TayNew started to trend worldwide prompting GMMTV to release a cut of Kiss Me Again that featured only Pete and Kao’s scenes. Their relationship continued into the GMMTV BL series Dark Blue Kiss where they were featured as the main couple. It was a worldwide success and currently has almost 32 million views on YouTube.
Tay and New have also taken part in incredibly popular concerts and Fan Meetings 2019’s Y I Love You and 2022’s Love Out Loud (LOL) festival as well as headlining their fan meeting Polca: The Journey. Polca is their ship (couple) fan name which is a combination of their two favorite animals the Polar bear (New) and the Orca (Tay). The two are considered to be one of GMMTV’s pillars of the BL world.
Tay and New are always playing off one another, and playing with one another. They’re a great team and you can that they’re incredibly good friends.
The 2021 crime drama Remember You Tay took on the character of Paytai, a twisted and deranged serial killer. It was the first time I’d seen him play this kind of role and he was so incredibly evil. He gave me chills, but, I also still found him insanely attractive, which as I type this realize, doesn’t say much for my taste in men. Still, it’s worth a watch and can currently be viewed on Netflix.
On 29 June 2017, Tay was ordained as a monk at the Wat Bowonniwet Vihara.
A lover of photography, Tay is always taking photos, and he’s got a good eye.
Well, if I’m being honest, he’s got a good everything.
One of Tay’s most endearing qualities is the fact that he is a complete and total klutz. There are entire YouTube compilations just featuring him being a total spaz and they are some of the most adorable videos on the internet.
He’s one of those total package guys, but he’s also incredibly humble and sweet. I look forward to continuing to follow his career.
