One of the things I’ve learned since moving to Japan is that discovery never really stops.
Some days it’s a new restaurant, a new store, or a new challenge at work. This week, it was music.
After hearing more buzz surrounding the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, I somehow found myself tumbling headfirst down a Michael Jackson rabbit hole. I grew up with the King of Pop and was even lucky enough to see an early cut of Moonwalker thanks to a cousin in the industry who was working on the film at the time.
What started as revisiting a few familiar songs quickly turned into hours spent watching performances, interviews, and documentaries about one of the most influential entertainers the world has ever known. For many younger people, however, their first introduction to Michael Jackson isn’t through Thriller, Bad, or his legendary live performances. Instead, it’s often through the headlines and controversies that have shaped public perception in ways that remain fiercely debated.
Whatever conclusions people ultimately reach, it’s impossible not to recognize how much joy this man brought to the world. Revisiting his work reminded me just how extraordinary his talent was and how deeply his music became woven into popular culture.
On a much lighter note, I’m still reeling from the fact that I found Frosted Flakes at my local supermarket. I’ve eaten far more of them than I probably should have over the past few days, and honestly, I regret nothing. Sometimes the smallest discoveries can bring the biggest smiles.
Between that, new music on the horizon, more My Super Fiancé on the way, and several other projects currently taking shape behind the scenes, life feels busy in the best possible way.
For someone who moved halfway around the world searching for a new adventure, I couldn’t be happier with where the journey is taking me.
