Truly outrageous and beautifully bold, Jem and the Holograms was (and remains) one of the most iconic animated soap operas of all time. As the first season came to a close, Hasbro was already setting the stage for the next wave of fashion dolls—introducing an all-new look: the Glitter ‘n Gold collection.

With Mattel’s Barbie and the Rockers already riffing on Jem’s success, Hasbro went undercover, giving the new look (and its corresponding episode) the codename Ruby Red to keep prying eyes—and quick-moving copycats—out of the loop.

Alongside the glittering new fashions came a brand-new song: ｢Glitter and Gold｣—a shimmering anthem of unapologetic confidence and stage-stealing sparkle. As the 71st track featured in the series, it became one of Jem’s most popular numbers, accompanying doll releases, appearing on a special mail-in offer tape, and landing a spot on the Jem’s Dream Tour cassette—alongside hits from Katrina and the Waves and New Edition.

Now, nearly four decades later, toy company The Loyal Subjects is bringing back an all-new line of Jem and the Holograms 12” fashion dolls—including a stunning new Glitter ‘n Gold Jem. And, just like her original counterpart, she comes with music!

Recently, Hasbro Pulse celebrated Jem’s 40th anniversary with an EP of reimagined recordings by Britta Phillips, the original singing voice of Jem. According to The Loyal Subjects, the new Glitter ‘n Gold Jem will feature a fresh recording of ｢Glitter and Gold｣ built right into her display stand.

Hopefully, this reimagined version will also see a digital release.

By pairing a refreshed “Glitter & Gold” with a deluxe fashion doll, The Loyal Subjects has done more than craft a collectible—they’ve created a multi-sensory throwback that honors Jem’s place in pop culture history.
