As a dedicated Snow Man fan, I was thrilled to learn about the upcoming film, (LOVE SONG), featuring the cute and comical Koji Mukai along with Win Morisaki (Ready Player One, Maru).
Directed by the talented Weerachit Thongjila, the mastermind behind the beloved GMMTV BL drama 2gether (2020), the original film fallows Souta (Morisaki) – a serious researcher who, after a sudden transfer from Tokyo to Bangkok, reunites with Kai (Mukai), a former university crush turned photographer and musician. Kai’s creative pursuits rekindle Souta’s long-dormant emotions. Meanwhile, Kai is surprised by Souta’s vivid memory of the “unfinished song” he sang during their student days. As they reconnect, the haunting melody rekindles their past connection, slowly drawing them closer.
“Being able to work in Thailand is a significant experience for me, and I was thrilled when I got the offer,” Mukai said of his time filming. “While I felt nervous and pressured, I was also filled with excitement. The character I played, Kai, is artistic, clumsy, and unable to be completely honest, but he knows exactly what he wants to do. He has a somewhat selfish side, where he holds back from saying what he truly feels toward Souta.”
“Souta’s pure and straightforward personality allowed me to fully immerse myself in playing Kai, and I’m deeply grateful for that.” He continues. “The director, who loves Japan, always had a warm smile while monitoring the shoot. Initially, I was confused by the differences in filming styles, but in the end, we created something spectacular,” he shared with great enthusiasm.”
“(LOVE SONG) is the first film I’ve ever worked on for such a long period of time.” Director, Weerachit Thongjila stated. “While learning about the cultural differences between Japan and Thailand, we poured our hearts into this project, crafting a romantic story filled with the pure charm of love and the allure of love songs. It’s a film that delivers happiness to viewers, and I hope everyone watches it while feeling the emotions of loving and being loved by someone. I believe those who see this film first will experience something truly special.”
“Win Morisaki’s portrayal of Souta brought to life a character that is lovable through his sincere acting.” He continued. “Meanwhile, Koji Mukai’s depiction of Kai, a character who embodies both a passion for music and sensitivity, highlights Kai’s profound love through Mukai’s earnest performance. Their acting is full of genuine emotion, adding even more brilliance to the story. As a director, working with them allowed us to explore the true meaning of the world and the song within this film, and to connect deeply with its essence. I hope everyone who watches this film can feel the same moving experience!”
