One of the things I am loving about My Love Mix-Up Thailand is how – while keeping true to the source material – they’re adding their own spin to the story. It’s making it both endearing and intriguing. Which – for me – is a great thing, because the original series (and manga) are very near and dear to my heart. But, if I’m being honest, so are Gemini and Fourth.

This week’s ‘camping trip’ episode kept the story’s heart but went into its own forty-minute direction. It’s a hellish survival course, and Atom and Mudmee decide to make this the trip where they confess their love. However, the focus is more on the two of them overcoming their inadequacies and becoming better/stronger people. This was one of the few flaws I saw with the original series. Aoki and Hashimoto didn’t grow during the course; they relied on the kindness of Ida and Akun. So, it was nice to see this adjustment in the Thai version. They’re also playing up the romantic tension between Aton and Kongthap. It’s still innocent and sweet, but underneath you can tel they’re getting to the point where they both just want to explode with emotion. It’s adorable. I also loved that Atom overcame his fears by rushing to find help for Kongthap, who was bitten by a snake (who apparently had very human-like teeth).

I am very much loving Half and Mudmee as the side couple in this series. They’re not just side-couples, but more second leads and their development is much more thought-out than in the Japanese series.

The soundtrack to this series is also just top-notch. I am really liking where it’s going. I can’t wait to see more so…
