In the 1980s these pastel ponies were everywhere. Toys, books series, and film. While I had a few, I wasn’t as into the toys as I was there series, especially when Bettina (The voice of Rainbow Brite) took over the role of Megan, one of the ponies human companions, from Tammy Amerson after the 1986 feature film.

But, like many of the Marvel/Sunbow productions, I have always enjoyed the music. So when I discovered that Hasbro had released a remix album of the original theme song – I rushed to buy it.

The album features 6 vocal tracks, the original 1980s theme to the series (as well as an 80s remix) – Performed by Mona Rue, a 90s remix performed by Leah Levi and Chelsea Grams, an EDM remix by Guilty Empress, an acoustic remix by Freddii, and a sped-up version (also performed by Rue).

While Rue’s sugar-sweet voice is similar to the original 80s singer, it’s just different enough that you know it’s not the same. The remixes are nice, but at under a minute each, the entire album is over with in just about six minutes (each track does have an instrumental version).

Though the purchase is nice piece of nostalgia, and the cover art is PERFECT, this should have been one I simply streamed. Though it does give me hope that eventually the soundtrack to the 80s film will also find its way onto streaming platforms.

You can stream the album on Apple Music – or if you want to purchase, you can do so at Qobuz, which offers a 24-Bit/44.1 kHz . FLAC option.
