There’s a certain nostalgia that washes over me when I think about the days I spent in record stores, leisurely wandering the aisles, picking up CD singles (sometimes solely because the guys on the cover were cute), and the anticipation of waiting until I got home to see if the purchase was worth it.

Tower Records was one of my absolute must-stops while I was in Tokyo and the first single I saw was “Stormy” by Nissy x SKY-HI. I hadn’t heard of either artist before and had no idea what the single was about or how it sounded, and I only bought it because – obviously – I thought they were cute. However, one thing I didn’t have in Tokyo…. was my CD player. So, I had to wait until I returned to the states to find out if the purchase was worth it.

The short answer? Yes.

Nissy (Takahiro Nishijima) and SKY-HI (Mitsuhiro Hidaka) are both members of the co-ed vocal group AAA (pronounced Triple A) also known as Attack All Around , which is signed to the Avex label. They are known for their unique blend of pop, rock, and electronic music, and their songs often feature catchy melodies and powerful vocals.

The theme song to the anime film Blue Lock the Movie – Episode Nagi, which was released on 19 April (the day I arrived in Japan), ‘Stormy,’ is an alternative rock/art pop track that spun me back to the late 90’s / early 2000s with it’s Gorillaz inspired sound – which made it a total win! The two-track disc also includes the instrumental of ‘Stormy.’

It’s a great song, and now I’m really curious about this film. You can purchase “Stormy” wherever Japanese music and movies are sold including CD Japan.

More music reviews soon so…

Stay tuned!
