I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, music is one of the most important parts of any series. It’s its own character and has the power to amplify emotion, heighten suspense, or make you snort-laugh because it’s such a perfect choice for the moment. A joint venture between South Korea’s SBS and Netflix, the supernatural K-Drama MY DEMON is fabulous.

First, the series theme song “True” by YOARI is so haunting and beautiful. A touch of Synthpop, it’s quite different from the following tracks – and a perfect introduction to the series.

The second track “Whenever, Wherever” from Roy Kim, is a tender romantic ballad. Simple and sweet, exactly as it is supposed to be.

There is something almost magical about the third OST song, “With You” by Winter from the girl group aespa. There’s a hint of power behind the ballad, which makes it one of the better tracks on the album.

The touch of R&B and rock added to “Even if we disappear” by Dawn is a nice touch. It’s a descent song, but not my favorite on the soundtrack.

Another piano ballad, “Say You Love Me” from Sam Kim isn’t the most complex song musically, but with his voice so sexy and smooth, it doesn’t have to be. It’s one of the better songs on the OST.

The first track released from the OST is the series ending theme “Our Night is more beautiful than your Day” recorded by the wildly popular girl group NewJeans. It’s doesn’t hit the same as “True” but it’s still one hell of a good song!

While I am not as over-the-moon with the OST songs as I was with other series like “The Heavenly Idol” or “Heartbeat” The score to this series is absolutely brilliant. During the tango/fight scene during episode 4, a reimagined version of Bond’s “Explosive” plays. It’s one of my most favorite pieces of classical music. I cannot wait for the full OST to be released.

While you can stream the OST songs on Apple Music / Spotify, as an artist, I want to support other artist, and since I know first hand how streaming doesn’t offer much in the way of compensation, I like to purchase the tracks. You can buy on iTunes, but as an audio-file, It hurts my heart how much the sound is truncated. Luckily, I discovered Qobuz – which has allowed me to legally purchase this and other digital pieces of music in a lossless format.

More on the music from MY DEMON soon so…
