Call me old-fashioned but there is something dangerously sexy about a pirate. Especially when that pirate is played by the irresistibly charming and ruggedly handsome Can Yaman in the new period drama Sandokan: The Pirate Prince, now streaming on Netflix.

A British / Italian production, the eight episode series was directed by Jan Maria Michelini and Nicola Abbatangelo, with the story written by Alessandro Sermoneta, Davide Lentieri, and Scott Rosenbaum. Based on the adventure novels by Emilio Salgari about the pirate hero Sandokan, the series first aired on Rai 1 between 1 and 16 December 2025.
First published in 1883, Sandokan is the hero of eleven adventure novels, with films, television dramas, and even multiple animated adaptations giving the character an expansive (and massive) fanbase.
Something Netflix new they could play too, and they did VERY well.
From the opening the series is fun and fantastical with just a touch of fantasy and a hint of the 1970s-era melodrama that made the original series of films so popular – including the music.
The series has already been renewed for a second season so… here’s to more adventure!
There will be more adventures soon so…
Stay Tuned!
