Like Oz, Jim Henson’s Labyrinth was a film that stirred my imagination and an early muse to my own creativity. For the past 39 years the film has been ( at least) a biannual rewatch. I also cannot count how many times I read the novel adaptation by A. C. H. Smith, but my original copy is so warn, the cover slips from the spine.
It’s a fascinating read that gives even more depth and excitement to the world of the underground.
Now, Archaia has released an all-new graphic novel reimagining just in time for the holidays.

Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, readers are invited to experience a this beautiful new retelling of Sarah’s surreal adventure through the shifting paths beyond the Goblin City, as she races to rescue her brother Toby from the clutches of the Goblin King, Jareth.
Based on Smith’s novel, the reinterpretation was written by Kyla Vanderklugt, and brought to life with illustrations by Giorgio Spalletta. Released to celebrate the films 40th anniversary through BOOM! Studios — the graphic novel includes moments and scenes never filmed and others removed from the final cut.
The artwork in this hardcover collection is nothing short of stunning. Clearly fans themselves, Vanderklugt and Spalletta breathe new life into the story, honoring its legacy while expanding its visual imagination. It’s a beautiful reimagining of a cult classic — and a fitting addition to the many releases and celebrations marking this truly magical film.

There will be more Labyrinth soon so…
