For the first time in almost forty glitter-dusted years, Hasbro has gifted Jem and the Holograms fans with the perfect present — a cover of the Wham! classic 「Last Christmas」!

Originally written and recorded by George Michael in 1984, the song has always shimmered with a kind of soft-focus heart-ache, a bittersweet melody wrapped in tinsel. It would have been perfect as the lead single from Jem Christmas album during the animated series’ original run. Not only is it one of the decade’s most enduring pop tracks, it was born from one of the era’s most luminous queer icons — a lineage that beautifully mirrors Jem’s own place in animated pop history.
There’s something poetic about that connection, like the music itself is passing a pink-sparkled torch.
Britta Phillips — the original singing voice of Jem — taught a generation that music is magic. Forty years on, but when she steps back to the mic, she sounds uncannily, gorgeously unchanged. It’s as if Jem herself just walked out of a kaleidoscope and picked up right where she left off. Britta’s vocal still glows with that angelic-but-playful sparkle, reminding us that Jem isn’t simply nostalgic; she’s timeless.
The production leans deliciously into its roots: soft synths , a saxophone — it’s quintessentially 80s in the best way possible. It’s earnest, dreamy, and has just the right amount of that classic hologram sparkle— slipping into the Jem discography in pitch-perfect rhythm with these other reimagined tracks.
Earlier this week, Britta teased on Instagram that even more Jem music is on the way. so, you know what that means….
