Today is the 3rd anniversary of my favorite J-pop group, Travis Japan. Since before their debut I’ve watched the seven talented young men work themselves to the bone, going from the underdog to the kings of the jungle.
I’ve gotten to know a lot about them over the past three years, and while most of these ‘facts’ may be common knowledge to the TraJa-TAN, I still wanted to share – along with my humble opinion.

Kaito Miyachika (宮近海斗)
Nickname: “Chaka”
Born: 22 September · Virgo
The Leader Tiger. Chaka enjoys watching movies and is known for his big booming voice and bright brown eyes and long eyelashes!
My Thoughts: Fun Fact – Chaka was my very first #mancrushmonday and to this day I don’t think I could’ve chosen someone better…. Seriously, have you seen his eyes? Also, just watch their videos – he’s a giant goofball, and a good sense of humor is the sexiest trait a man can have (in my opinion).

Kaito Nakamura (中村海人)
Nickname: “Umi”
Born: 15 April · Aries
The Pet Tiger. Umi’s hobbies include playing computer games and watching anime. He loves to dance and is always looking for ways to improve his craft.
My Thoughts: Quiet, and sometimes introspective, he’s one of the most interesting people I’ve gotten the chance to interview. He’s a fascinating person to listen too and has a great love for the group and works tirelessly to ensure their success.

Ryuya Shimekake (七五三掛龍也)
Nickname: “Shime”
Born: 23 June · Cancer
The Sweet Tiger. Shime loves listening to music while walking. His special skill is showcasing strong individuality in his dancing. He has two miniature dachshunds, Jam and Nana.
My Thoughts: If I’m being honest, I love the duality of Shime. Does he live up to his Tiger persona? Yes. But… watch any of the fancams from their performances and that sweetness turns to spice REAL quick!

Noel Kawashima (川島如恵留)
Nickname: “Noel”
Born: 22 November · Sagittarius
The Brain Tiger is also the most senior member of the group. He loves to travel and learn. His special skills include backflips and piano – among many other talents.
My Thoughts: Noel is such an icon. He’s one of the most cerebral people I’ve ever seen. In addition to his success as a member of Travis Japan, he’s a published author and has a billion and a half certifications – including a Certified Travel Services Supervisor. He’s also a published author! You can read about the book here.

Shizuya Yoshizawa (吉澤閑也)
Nickname: “Shizu”
Born: 10 August · Leo
The comedy Tiger. Shizu loves basketball and choreographing dances. He’s always calm, quiet, and aware of his surroundings – which he often uses to make his friends laugh.
My Thoughts: Shizu’s moments on the docu-series Ride on Time are some of my favorites. Incredibly humble, he is so kind and caring toward the younger generation and spends so much time working with the Juniors (trainees) of the agency.

Genta Matsuda (松田元太)
Nickname: “Genta”
Born: 19 April · Aries
The Sexy Tiger. Genta was one of the newest members of the group, joining in 2017. He has a younger sister who is a member of the group UN1ON). His hobbies include listening to music, watching movies, going to cafés, and collecting bath powders.
My Thoughts: Like Shime, Genta is a dichotomy. On one hand he’s incredibly sexy (check out his Tarzan covershoot) but on the other, he’s one of those people who will drop everything just to help someone in need.

Kaito Matsukura (松倉海斗)
Nickname: “Machu”
Born: 14 November · Scorpio
The Pure Tiger. Machu joined the group alongside Genta – but MatsuMatsu was already working together as a part of Sexy松(Show) – a part of the Sexy Zone family. His hobbies include listening to (and writing) music. He says his strength is being bright and energetic, and his weakness is being persistent to the point of annoyance.
My Thoughts: Like Umi, Machu is fascinating to listen to. He absolutely lives up to his Tiger person. His work-ethic, his energy, and that million watt smile are infectious. He’s also an incredible songwriter.
Yesterday, the group released 「Disco Baby」 the lead-track from their 3rd studio album, ‘s travelers – and it’s been on constant repeat ever since. Dropping on 3 December, the album will be available wherever Japanese CDs are sold with additional songs and exclusive behind-the-scenes video content across four separate formats – including an exclusive Family Club edition.
I cannot wait to hear, and see everything this album has to offer – and the boys themselves, happy anniversary!
There will be more Travis Japan soon so…
Stay Tuned!
