What I love most about Travis Japan is that they never stay stagnant. Like an ever-revolving record, they spin from one sound to the next — unafraid to explore, yet always grounded in their desire to grow beyond who they were before. Not to compete with anyone else, but simply to evolve.

Sometimes, evolution means looking back — taking a piece of the past and threading it into a brand-new groove that in addition to being fun and funky fresh, stays true to their core mission: “Just Dance Together.”

And what better way to dance than with disco, baby?!

Serving as the lead track to their third album, 「Disco Baby」 is a feel-good anthem that carries the same vibrant energy as 「Okie Dokie」, the lead single from their debut album Road to A. But that’s not the only nostalgic nod.

The video opens with the members at a school dance — TJ High School — a familiar setting reminiscent of 「Crazy Crazy」, the lead track from their sophomore album VIIsual. They’re watching, waiting, ready to move. Then, with a snap of his fingers, Machu calls the beat.

As the disco ball spins, so does the soundtrack of our lives. The video is packed with Easter eggs from Travis Japan’s past works, including 「T.G.I. Friday Night」 and 「Sweetest Tune」. It all ties back to that theme of evolution — sometimes, to move forward, you have to look back. Pulling pieces of the past into the present as an homage. It’s one of the ways Travis Japan continues to grow while always staying true to themselves.

The video wraps up with the group boarding a strawberry-shaped spaceship — a clever callback to one of my favorite tracks, 「Candy Kiss」. As they blast off into the night, it feels like the perfect teaser for a brand-new adventure in sound from one of my favorite groups and I can’t wait to hear where the album takes us next!

There will be more Travis Japan soon so…

Stay Tuned!
