It’s October now, the season to scare,
Pumpkin spice whispers through crisp night air.
Witches and warlocks, demons and hosts,
But one little witch haunts my thoughts the most…
Sabrina Spellman.

As I once again embark on her Chilling Adventures, I’m reminded just how much fun the Berlanti-led series really was. Part One wastes no time pulling us into Greendale’s eerie underworld, blending teen drama with occult horror in a way that stays true to the comics while still feeling fresh and addictive. Kiernan Shipka anchors the story with a sharp, self-assured performance, perfectly embodying a Sabrina caught between the mortal world of high school crushes and the sinister pull of her witch heritage. From haunted baptisms to blood-soaked rituals, the series leans into gothic theatrics without ever losing its sly sense of camp. It’s macabre, magical, and messy—just as it should be.

The supporting cast brings rich texture. Lucy Davis and Miranda Otto are bloody brilliant as Hilda and Zelda, offering maternal guidance with wildly different shades of morality, while Michelle Gomez devours every scene as the deliciously wicked Ms. Wardwell/Madam Satan. Gavin Leatherwood is a full-on thirst trap as Nicholas Scratch, and the mortals hold their own too: Ross Lynch’s Harvey is sexy, sweet, and sensitive; Jaz Sinclair is cunning and commanding as Roz; and Lachlan Watson shines as Suzie/Theo, giving the transgender teen real heart and complexity. Together, they form a circle of friends that feels as vital as the magic itself.

Of course, the show isn’t without its growing pains. Some subplots sprawl too wide, and the balance between high school melodrama and satanic coven politics occasionally wobbles. But even with its imperfections, Sabrina remains wickedly entertaining television. The late Chance Perdomo, unforgettable as Sabrina’s housebound cousin Ambrose, was always one of the show’s brightest sparks—flirty, flamboyant, and gloriously outrageous. A true talent gone far too soon, making his presence in the series a bittersweet spell.

There will be more film / series reviews soon so…
