This weekend, YouTube did something strange. It recommended something to me that I actually thought looked interesting. It was a music video for the South Korean group CIX (씨아이엑스).

Now, when it comes to K-pop, I’m very picky. For years, Girls Generation and ZEROBASEONE have ruled the genre in my eyes – with a few songs of OnlyOneOf, Stray Kids, and BTS sprinkled in for flavor. Very rarely have I gone into a deep dive, and even more rare have I had turned around to purchase the entire discography.

But there was something different about this group and the song YouTube recommended

｢니가 궁금해｣

Translating into ｢Wonder You｣, I was drawn in by the sweetness of the synth and the ethereal colors and secular imagery. Yes, the photo of group member Yonghee (용희) shirtless in a sailor hat was an “Okay, pull my arm, YouTube” moment – but, while I initially came for the sight, I stayed for the sound.

The lead from the group’s 8th EP Album ｢GO Chapter 1 : GO Together｣ Everything about this video was designed to draw you in. It’s sleek, it’s sexy, it’s incredibly well produced – and much like Snow Man’s ｢Crazy F-R-E-S-H Beat｣it was the gateway into something pretty intriguing.

I’m excited to hear more.
