The fifth episode of Be On Cloud’s period drama Shine might just be the most emotional yet.
There’s a creeping sense of impending doom bubbling beneath the sexy surface of Lert and Ran’s relationship, and it feels inevitable that if tragedy strikes, it will be theirs.
The stakes are simply too high.
Unpopular opinion: Lert kind of deserves it.
Yes, his wife Dhevi (Pimolrat Pisolyabutr) was pushed onto him after the murder of his lover, but she’s just as much a victim as he is. On the flip side, Dhevi’s blossoming relationship with Veera (Unnop Thongborisut) is absolutely adorable—and all the more heartbreaking because it also feels destined to end in sorrow.

Tanwa and Trin continue to shine here, their relationship grounded in both drama and humor. Real life is always a mix of the two, and I love that Trin is finally standing up for himself. Meanwhile, Victor absolutely stole the spotlight this week—charming, funny, and unexpectedly sweet with just the right amount of spice.
Victor seeing the relationship between Tanwa and his father will hopefully make him more sympathetic to the hippie, especially considering how close he and his own father are, but… also, it might not. He might use that fragility to his own advantage.
The score, composed by Jay Monton Jira and Sudkhate Jungcharoen, remains gorgeous and haunting. The final scene between Lert and Ran is breathtaking in its intimacy, yet still…tragedy lingers beneath it, ready to erupt.
Honestly? I’m scared.

With only three episodes left, it’s hard to imagine Shine ending on a happy note for everyone. But, maybe that’s the point. It’s a period piece and love isn’t always forever.
There will be more Shine soon so…
