I’ve been waiting for the Thai drama Shine since the moment it was announced.

Originally pitched as a sequel to the critically acclaimed period film Man Suang (2023), the project has since evolved into something entirely its own—unmoored from its cinematic origins, yet no less compelling.

Premiering 2 August 2025 on WeTV (and airing in Thailand on Channel 7), this eight-episode drama marks the long-awaited on-screen reunion of Nattawin Wattanagitiphat (Apo) and Phakphum Romsaithong (Mile)—the dynamic duo whose work in Man Suang and the groundbreaking 2022 hit KinnPorsche didn’t just shake up the world of BL… it rewrote the genre completely.

After a few twists and turns, Shine is no longer connected to Man Suang—and honestly? It might be even better.

Set against the volatile political landscape of Thailand between 1969 and 1971, the series dives headfirst into the complexities of passion, protest, and personal identity. Apo stars as Trin, a principled economist torn between duty and desire, while Mile plays Thanwa, a magnetic, free-spirited hippie who sees the world not as it is—but as it couldbe. Add in Moira (played with flair by Sinjai Plengpanich), a brilliantly eccentric widow with no patience for societal rules, and you’ve got a trio that’s equal parts fire, friction, and fascination.

As with all Be On Cloud productions, Shine is cinematic and emotionally charged—visually rich, emotionally layered, and unapologetically bold. The soundtrack, produced by Slow Machine in collaboration with TERO Music, only elevates the atmosphere. Officially released on 24 July 2025, the Shine Original Soundtrack features nine stunning tracks. Highlights include:

  • 「Far Side of the Moon」 by Slot Machine — A haunting, melancholic opener that sets the tone with longing and introspection.
  • 「Dawn」 by Mile Phakphum Romsaithong — Mile’s solo debut on the OST channels protest-song energy with a deeply personal edge, echoing Thanwa’s rebellious nature.
  • 「Am I in Love」 by Slot Machine — Dreamy, romantic, and already a fan favorite, this slow-burn track captures the emotional uncertainty at the heart of the story.

Balancing energy, mood, and movement with stylish restraint, Episode 1 radiates quiet confidence—every glance, every pause, every note is deliberate.

And here’s something longtime fans will notice: the billing order has flipped. Apo is now listed first, signaling a shift in narrative weight—and it pays off. Apo delivers a subtly commanding performance as Trin, bringing a quiet intensity to the role. He’s the perfect counterpoint to Mile’s warm, wild, and utterly captivating Thanwa.

It’s a beautifully crafted first episode—poised, purposeful, and full of promise.

More Shine is on the way…
So stay tuned.
