Hasbro Pulse just dropped the Jem and the Holograms – 40th Anniversary Full-Album Listening Party on YouTube and within seconds I was transported back to those glitter-drenched Saturday mornings—cereal bowl in hand, eyes wide, mind racing and my heart totally entranced by the best animated soap opera of all time.

Hearing all the songs together like this reminded me just how truly outrageous and beautifully bold the music of Jem (and her iconic singing voice, Britta Phillips) really was. Watching the six songs was like a glam-rock time capsule of synthy guitar solos, diva-level vocals, and enough glitter to coat the cosmos. 

As I wrote in my initial review of the six song EP, the music doesn’t just hold up—it sparkles brighter than ever. Whether you’re a lifelong hologram or a newcomer ready to be dazzled, press play. This is girl power at full volume and it’s truly, truly TRULY outrageous!
