I still remember the first time I saw Superman: The Movie. I was yong – almost too young to even know what a superhero really was. All I knew was, I was getting to spend time with my dad and when I saw Christopher Reeves soar up, up, and away I really did believe a man could fly. For me, It wasn’t just a movie—it was one of those experiences that fundamentally changed me. It’s etched into my core memories, and the moment I realized eventually, I wanted to write a character just like Superman.

So I did.

One of the most inspirational parts of Superman: The Movie has always been the music. John Williams didn’t just compose a score—he constructed a symphonic embodiment of hope, courage, and wonder. From the triumphant blare of the main theme to the gentle, romantic swells of “Can You Read My Mind,” it’s nothing short of iconic. A soundtrack so powerful, it continues to define the sound of superman to this day.

It’s impossible to hear those opening notes and not feel a sense of awe. The score captures Superman’s strength without losing sight of his humanity—something Williams achieves with masterful precision. Whether you’re revisiting the soundtrack for nostalgia or discovering it for the first time, this is one of cinema’s most iconic and emotionally resonant compositions.

So when Mondo announced a new collector’s box set for Superman: The Movie—complete with vinyl variants and bundled with the Superman ’78 comic book—I felt that same flutter in my chest. The magic hadn’t gone anywhere. It was just waiting for me to rediscover it all over again. There’s a warmth and richness to the sound that gives John Williams’ score a depth I haven’t heard before, it’s taken a whole new life.

Superman ’78 is everything a fan of the original film could hope for—nostalgic, respectful, and bursting with heart. Robert Venditti perfectly captures the voice, warmth, and unwavering optimism of Christopher Reeve’s Superman, while Wilfredo Torres’ art channels the cinematic magic with uncanny precision.

This time, it’s Brainiac who threatens Earth—forcing Clark Kent to make the ultimate sacrifice: leaving the planet he’s promised to protect. Forever. But once aboard Brainiac’s ship, Superman discovers something he never expected… he may not be the last son of Krypton after all.

A true love letter to the legacy of director Richard Donner, Superman ’78 returns us to the world that made the original film soar at the box-office. With stunning variant covers and selections from Torres’ sketchbook included, this collection is a must-have for anyone who is a fan of the one and only SUPERMAN!

With an unbeatable MSP of $65 – Mondo has made this an extremely affordable piece for any collection and can be ordered from MondoShop.

Totally worth it.
