In honor of the show’s 40th anniversary, the one and only Britta Phillips—the original singing voice of Jem—was back in the studio to lend her incredible voice to a brand-new recording of the iconic theme song. And guess what? It’s not just excitement. It’s not just adventure. It’s the best thing since vinyl and as a life-long fan, I couldn’t be more excited! 

For the first time ever, official music from the legendary 1980s animated series is available on streaming platforms, fully remastered and glammed up for a new generation. These tracks shimmer with all the synth-pop sass, high-voltage energy, and glitter-drenched confidence that made the original series a cultural—and cross-generational—phenomenon.

“Seriously, I was thrilled to be asked to sing these songs again,” Phillips said in an exclusive interview with Billboard. “I had listened to and sang many Jem songs at Jemcon last year, so they were very fresh in my mind. And I’m so excited for the Jem fans to hear them.”

Phillips’ voice is as radiant as ever, effortlessly channeling the original’s electric energy with a fresh coat of modern glitter—creating the perfect synergy of sound. The updated production stays true to that vintage glam-rock spirit but cranks it up with crystal-clear synths, punchier beats, and a sleek pop polish that feels custom-built for 2025. Plus, with new vocals from Phillips herself, the track doesn’t just sparkle—it shreds – especially the extra little sweeteners she added to the bridge. 

“I took a couple of voice lessons before the recording sessions which helped with my confidence in belting those crazy high notes, but luckily the sound of my voice and my vocal range hasn’t changed much. It’s still pretty girlish,” Phillips said in the same interview with Billboard. “To my surprise, the high notes weren’t difficult. We even kept the songs in the original key except for one track where we dropped down a half step – and that one didn’t have the highest notes. The biggest challenge was singing at such fast tempos (the original tempos), but it was very exciting and nostalgic for me, and I had a blast! And working with these amazing and talented producers (all female!) was inspiring,” she adds, tipping to the female-led team behind this anniversary album.

And that’s just the beginning—this release includes six re-recorded tracks, including: “Truly Outrageous,” “Like A Dream,” “I Got My Eye On You,”“She’s Got The Power,” and one of my personal favorites “Only The Beginning.”

It’s something fans have been waiting for as they (myself included) have spent decades scouring YouTube, cassette transfers, and fan-made remixes for scraps of our decent transfers of our favorite songs. But now, in an unprecedented move by Hasbro and the team behind this dazzling reissue, JEM’s music is ready to be streamed, shared, and discovered by new generations.
