I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—there’s something undeniably special about Ae! group (Aぇ! group).
As the latest act to emerge from STARTO ENTERTAINMENT—Japan’s premier male idol powerhouse—success was always in the cards. But while chart numbers can measure popularity, they don’t always measure talent.
Ae! group isn’t just good. They’re exceptional.
Debuting in May 2024 under Universal Music Japan, the group—comprising Yoshinori Masakado, Seiya Suezawa, Keita Richard Kusama, Ken Kojima, and Masaya Sano—isn’t just another idol unit. These six young men don’t just sing and dance; they play their own instruments and take an active role in crafting their sound.
In an industry dominated by giants like Snow Man, Naniwa Danshi, SixTONES, and Travis Japan, Ae! group brings something refreshingly different.
Their debut album, D.N.A, proves it—without question.
The album opens with 「Hello」, a beautifully arranged track featuring delicate strings and soft acoustics. It introduces a gentler, more introspective side of the group, contrasting with their previous high-energy releases.
Then there’s 「《A》BEGINNING」, their explosive debut single. If there was ever a perfect song to introduce Ae! group to the world, this is it. With soaring vocals and electrifying energy, it’s one of those tracks that quite literally blows you away.
「AKAN」is all about self-discovery and embracing who you are. With a mix of heartfelt lyrics and playful moments, it carries that signature Ae! group / Kansai humor that fans love.
Then there is ｢Colorful Days｣ – an irresistibly sweet, sugar-pop track. While Ae! group thrives on their edgier rock sound, this softer song proves just how well-rounded they are.
The groups second single ｢Gotta Be｣ is a stadium-ready rock anthem that demands to be played loud. Seiya’s vocals absolutely slay on this track, elevating it to another level.
For those who manage to grab [Limited Edition -Type B], there’s a hidden gem: 「しあわせもん」, easily one of the most beautiful songs in their discography. And the acoustic live version? Pure magic.
The album is available in three different versions, each with unique music and video extras. While all three are worth owning, [Limited Edition -Type B] is an absolute must. Why? Because it includes the full 「しあわせもん。」(Aぇ! group Acoustic Live Sessions).
When it comes to non-single tracks「ばんざいデスコ」takes the cake for me on this album. It’s got a very B52s vibe to it and includes group member Richard speaking English – and sounding damn good I might add.
