If you’ve spent any time on this blog, you already know how much I adore Travis Japan and its seven Unique Tigers. Beyond their rigorous group activities, each member shines with their own incredible talents—and today, I’d like to turn the spotlight on the group’s most senior member, Noel Kawashima (川島如恵留).

Known as the White Tiger and the Brains of the group, Noel is nothing short of astounding. A gifted acrobat, a beautiful pianist, and proficient in Japanese Sign Language (JSL), he continues to impress in more ways than one.

One of the first things I did on my recent trip to Japan was pick up a copy of his debut novel, Idol no Filter (The Idol’s Filter).

Released on his 30th birthday, the book isn’t a linear novel but rather a collection of essays—something that perfectly aligns with who Noel is as a person.

“The dream I’ve held for so long—to write a book—has finally come true, and on my 30th birthday, no less!” he shared excitedly. “From my fresh-faced days as a 17-year-old idol, to my 22-year career as a semi-veteran, to the “me” of now, on the cusp of turning 30, I hope you enjoy these raw and candid thoughts of mine.”

Idol no Filter is filled with 46 thought-provoking essays, offering an intimate look into hisjourney and perspectives on his unique life.

Since the book is written in Japanese, I relied on translation services to read it. While I know the words may not be exactly as he intended, it was still fascinating to get a glimpse into his world. Having interviewed the group multiple times, this was a rare opportunity to see the man behind the idol in a way I hadn’t before. The book is insightful, funny, and incredibly clever—traits Noel embodies effortlessly.

With an IQ that’s off the charts and a mind that never seems to stop working, it’s no surprise he’s finally taking a step back to rest.

I look forward to his next work and wish him not only a speedy recovery but all the love and light he deserves.

More soon so…
