After the success of their second album/tour, Naniwa Danshi was immediately back in the studio working on their next track.

While “LAI-LA-LA” – the second track released digitally from their sophomore album POPMALL – was incredibly steamy, they took a step back into the cuteness category for their next single release, “Make Up Day / Missing”

🐰STEPPIN’ BACK INTO CUTENESS🐶

Released on 8 August 2023, “Make Up Day” was used as the theme song for the romantic-comedy series Beni Sasu Life (紅さすライフ) which stared group member Ryusei Onishi.

College senior Masato Hojo is the second son of the president of the major cosmetics company Pegasus Cosmetics. Though he is not close to his father, makeup is an important part of his life. His goal in life is to start his own cosmetics company.

Then he meets Yoriko Minamoto (Hiroe Igeta), a young woman who refuses to wear any makeup. Pushed together by fate, the two join forces and begin an uphill battle toward launching a men’s cosmetics brand together. The series originally aired from. 

The series originally aired from 25 July 2023 – 26 September 2023 on NTV.

Released on 29 August 2023 “Missing” served as one of the theme songs to Knockin’ on Locked Door (ノッキンオン・ロックドドア) which starred group member Daigo Nishihata along with Hokuto Matsumura of SixTONES.

A mystery drama, Nishihata played Hisame Katanashi, a private detective who, guided by common sense, is gifted at discovering why a crime took place. His partner, Tori Gotenba (Matsumura), is proficient in discovering how the crimes took place. Though the two are partners, they’re also rivals. The series aired on TV Asahi from 29 July  2023 – 23 Sep  2023.

Neither series are available for international streaming.

The CD Single for Make Up Day / Missing was released on 13 September 2023 in 3 different versions. Another number one hit, Missing / Make Up Day spent 36 weeks on the Oricon charts in Japan and the RIAJ has certified the single platinum.
