As Naniwa Danshi’s sophomore album, POPMALL has everything I want in a pop album from an adorable guys’ group known for being the most sparkly group in J-pop. Of course, it’s got those sugar-pop bops that I (and all their fans) have come to know and love, as well as some steamier, sexier sounds that take the group in a more mature direction. It’s a well-balanced feast for the ears.
🦄A TOTALLY AWESOME TRACK LIST! 🦄
The album’s lead single, “Poppin’ Hoppin’ Lovin’,” is a 90s neon daydream set in – of course – The Mall, which is made even more delightful by its 1980s-inspired Robin Sparkles/Tiffany-coated heartbeat pop with bubblegum excitement!
The album’s second single, “LAI-LA-LA,” saw the colorful septet decide to turn down the sparkle (along with the lights) to tone down the cuteness and turn up the sensuality and sex appeal. Translating to “Light My Fire,” that’s exactly what the guys did.
“Blue Story” was the commercial song for Fine Today’s Sea Breeze deodorant.
