It’s official Hallmark has teamed up with Crayola Studios  and Cake Entertainment for an all new animated series based on the iconic Rainbow Brite!

From the log lines it appears that this news series will be a complete reboot, but also pay homage to what came before: Rainbow Brite, a friend, hero, role model and creative inspiration who brings all the colors of the rainbow to the universe, is transported to a dark and gloomy place with a mission to bring color, light and happiness to the world.

But wait, there’s more!

Producers Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher (Fast & Furious, Sonic the Hedgehog) are also developing a feature film for the brand. It also sounds like Crayola will be handling the licensing and merchandising for the 2024 reimagined Rainbow Brite with The Loyal Subjects (TLS) still producing dolls, toys, and action figures based off the original 1980s line.

“In this milestone year for Rainbow Brite we are thrilled to be working with Crayola Studios, Cake and Original Film on this vivid reimagining of the beloved brand,” Sabrina Wiewel, EVP and chief culture and strategy officer at Hallmark said in a statement to Variety. “It has proved its appeal over the past 40 years and we can’t wait to strengthen connections with loyal fans and introduce a new generation to the dazzling world of color and imagination.”

What I love about the 40th anniversary projects and products is that – while they’ve updated – they’ve stayed true to what made Rainbow Brite so appealing. They didn’t drastically change her look or style. They’ve kept the original fans in mind.

It’s wonderful!

There will be more Rainbow Brite soon so…

Stay Tuned!
