Like TOTALLY, Fer shure, October 2nd is a most excellent day! In addition to it being like the perfect time of year, not too hot and not too cold, it’s also the birthday of the one and only Tiffany, the raddest pop sensation of the 1980s!

Tubular!

In 1987, Tiffany exploded onto the music scene like a firework on the 4th of July, bringing her own brand of bubblegum pop with her cover of Tommy James and the Shondells’ 1967 hit I Think We’re Alone Now that was, like, totally fresh to an otherwise stale industry!

At just 15 years young, she not only dethroned the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson, from the top spot on the Billboard charts, but she still holds the record as the youngest female artist in history to have a number one single and album. That’s, like, totally mind-blowing!

So, let’s get into the groove and celebrate this iconic pop star’s special day with a blast from the past! Break out the neon, big hair, and parachute pants, because we’re about to take a totally radical trip down memory lane with the historic album that started it all for the one and only Tiffany!

Released on June 29, 1987, Tiffany’s self-titled debut album was a game-changer that catapulted the So-Cal teenager to international stardom! This iconic album spent two weeks reigning supreme at the top of the Billboard charts, earning a whopping 4x Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). With over seven million copies sold worldwide, Tiffany’s debut album became a global phenomenon, spawning four chart-topping singles that would become synonymous with the late 80s pop landscape.

I Think We’re Alone Now

The ultimate 80s anthem took the world by storm in 1987! This catchy tune spent two weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and three weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart. You couldn’t escape it – and we didn’t want to!

Did you know… “I Think We’re Alone Now” wasn’t Tiffany’s debut single? That distinction belongs to the dramatic “Danny.”

Could’ve Been

The third single from Tiffany’s debut album, this power ballad proved she was more than just a one-hit wonder. It spent two weeks at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, topped the Canadian RPM 100 Singles chart, and reached number four on the UK Singles Chart.

I Saw Him Standing There

Tiffany put her own spin on the 1960s hit from the Beatles, taking it to number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. As a cover song, it’s pretty rad.

Feelings of Forever

The fifth and final single from her debut album might not have reached the same chart-topping heights, but it’s a fan favorite – and one of mine too!

To say this album (and Tiffany herself) has had a profound impact on my life is a massive understatement! The moment my parents brought home the vinyl single of I Think We’re Alone Now, my musical world was forever altered. I played that record until the needle wore out (no joke!), mesmerized by Tiffany’s powerful vocals and the song’s infectious energy. It was my gateway to the world of pop music, and I was hooked. That album became the soundtrack to my youth, and its influence still resonates with me today.

Tiffany is more than just a pop legend – her trailblazing career and unwavering dedication to her craft have been a constant source of inspiration.

For me, what really takes the cake is the unforgettable experience of my own 2019 single, “Holy Water”. Written by Tim Feehan and Tiffany, this powerful ballad tackles the heart-wrenching topic of addiction – a struggle that’s all too familiar for many, especially within the LGBTQ+ community. It was a bold departure from my previous work, but like Tiffany proclaimed in 1990, I felt New Inside, and Tiffany’s lyrics brought a depth and vulnerability that resonated with me in a way I knew I had to share.

Tiff and I

I’m forever grateful to Tiffany for entrusting me with her song and for being a shining example of what it means to live authentically and unapologetically. So here’s to you, Tiff – on your special day, I hope the celebration is as truly, truly, truly outrageous as you are!

In 2019 Tiffany re-recorded an all new version of “I Think We’re Alone Now” and is currently working on a Greatest Hits: Retrospective from her entire career.
