2024 is the Summer of Nakajima.

Stepping out on his own as a solo artist this spring, he launched his official solo Fan Club: I AM:U

Then, he appeared in his first International drama, Concordia (from three-time Emmy-winning producer Frank Doelger, Game of Thrones). Kenty stars as A.J. Oba, the deliciously damaged gatekeeper of an AI system that keeps Concordia, a Swedish Utopia, up and running.

Earlier this month, he released his first digital single ファタール – Fatal as part of the special unit GEMN and theme song to the second season of the internationally successful anime Oshi no Ko (the first season is available now on home media release from Crunchyroll)

Now, he returns with ヒトゴト (Somebody Else’s Problem) as part of the HITOGOTO project for the new comedy/drama しょせん他人事(ひとごと)ですから ~とある弁護士の本音の仕事~currently airing on TV Tokyo. Written by Nakajima, the song reflects the main character’s internal struggle within the drama in which he also stars.

Taking on the role of the sharp-witted lawyer Osamu Yasuda, who navigates the murky waters of modern societal issues such as internet backlash, SNS conflicts, and defamation, all while upholding his personal motto of “It’s someone else’s problem.”

Based on the manga series of the same name (written by Sato Masamichi (左藤真通) and illustrated by Fujiya Katsuhito (富士屋カツヒト), Nakajima couldn’t be more excited, both for the song and the role. “Creating a song for a drama has always been a dream of mine,” Nakajima said in an official statement. “I’m truly honored to be a part of the HITOGOTO project; it feels incredibly personal and fulfilling.”

The song, a mix of pop-rock and dance (with the slightest dash of disco-groove), is catchy, fun, and everything you’d expect from a J-POP idol like Nakajima.

Having always wanted to write the theme song for a drama, Nakajima is very proud of the song.
“Through my lyrics, I wanted to explore what we should truly cherish and what defines our individuality in such times,” Nakajima said in a statement about the track.

Earlier this year, I had the extreme pleasure of sitting down with him personally—at a recording studio in Japan—as part of an interview for Genius and an exclusive question for Life In Cartoon Motion. The man is everything he appears to be. He’s got that idol charm, but a sweet and humble nature that allows for an easy flow of conversation. He’s an incredible human being, and I am so glad that he’s finding so much success. I can’t wait to see what’s next! So…
