She’s the pen behind some of the biggest pop songs, from Britney Spears to Katy Perry. A dynamic artist with the a voice of pure unadulterated power. A woman who knows what she wants she’s finally using that voice to tell her own stories.

Stories that should have been released more than a decade ago – shortly after her release of “American Girl,” which – as a young gay man living the thralls of Hollywood – Became the anthem of my summer.

“I wrote my album Hot City 11 years ago. I was at the top of my songwriting game, I co-wrote 10 No. 1 hits for other artists, got a record deal, and felt like I had finally earned permission to step out from behind the scenes and be an artist again,” McKee posted on her Instagram. “But the universe works in mysterious ways and Hot City never saw the light of day.”

As an album, HOT CITY is everything I could ever want in a pop album. Filled with vapor-wave anthems like “Rewind Your Heart” and “I Want to Call You,” McKee straddles the line of fun and emotion with her own electric kind of magic. There’s a reason she’s broken the top 100 on iTunes Top Album List.

In addition to “American Girl,” HOT CITY boasts some truly fantastic pop songs, including “Jenny’s Got a Boyfriend.”

“Don’t Get Mad, Get Famous”

“SLAY”

“Sleepwalker” – One of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITES

and “Stars in Your Heart”

“When the whole world has told you to sit down and shut up, and you’re like, ‘Fuck you. I’m about to slay,’ there’s something inspiring about that,” she said to Rolling Stone. “That’s why I’m doing it.”

HOT CITY can be purchased through all online retailers. For digital music, I generally purchase through Qobuz which offers which offers a 24-Bit/44.1 kHz download of the album, and Bonnie McKee deserves nothing less than being heard in all of her uncompressed glory!

More music soon so…

Stay tuned!
