The music of Naniwa Danshi possesses a special kind of sparkle; they’re like a sonic form of Xanax, akin to the uplifting power of classic musicals like The Wizard of Oz and Singin’ in the Rain. These timeless works of art, even after all these years, continue to inspire me and fill me with a sense of hope, wonder, and joy. So, when I discovered the group’s newest video, ‘Alpha,’ was styled after these magical musicals,I couldn’t have been more excited!

The lead track from their upcoming album +Alpha, the video is set against the backdrop of an office, the seven Naniwa Lucky Boys are dressed in grey, but while their clothing lacks their regular shimmer and shine, their effervescent attitudes and infectious smiles illuminate the dull scenery with that special radiance fans have come to know and love. This theatrical setting against the usual charm creates a captivating contrast that is sure to delight and inspire!

‘Alpha,’ with its upbeat sound and catchy lyrics, is a song guaranteed to make you fall in love with Naniwa Danshi all over again! What’s more, the addition of background dancer extras – a first for the group – not only amplifies the golden-era musical feel, but also adds a new dimension for the group to explore. They’re entered the next phase of their career and I can’t wait to see where they go!

Releasing on 12 June, you can pre-order physical copies of +Alpha wherever Japanese music and movies are sold, including CD JAPAN. The release features additional songs and behind-the-scenes video content across three separate formats.
