During my time in Japan, I made sure to visit the iconic Tower Records and stay updated on the releases of my favorite groups. One such group was WEST., who marked their impressive 10th anniversary with the release of a double A-side single, ハート/FATE.
WEST. never fails to bring a touch of Kansai mischief to their pop/rock sound, which is both playful and captivating. This was evident in their recent performance of the first released track, ‘ハート’ (English: ‘HEART’), on the popular YouTube Channel, THE FIRST TAKE.
I love this channel. Especially when groups signed under STARTO ENTERTAINMENT, The most prominent male idol factory in Japan, perform. The teamwork this kind of precision takes showcases how dedicated these guys are to their craft.
“FATE” is the second of the single’s “A-side” tracks (though it’s the first on the physical CD). While “Heart” is playful and fun, this song has a touch of grunge. It’s got a darker, dirtier sound that’s just incredibly sexy.
A simple straightforward pop song “・(ten)” is relaxing and reflective. It’s one of those songs you can roll the windows down and cruise to.
Each version of the single includes different tracks for the third track. As I bought Version B the third track is クセになる” (English: Addictive). It’s got a funky beat and like “FATE” is quite seductive sounding.
All three versions of ハート/FATE can be purchased at Tower Records in Tokyo or online wherever Japanese music and movies are sold – including CD Japan.
