Tina Turner was a legend in her own time.
A testament to resilience and strength, she overcame immense personal struggles, sacrificing a marriage and a successful career, to emerge from the ashes not only with legs of steel, but the well-earned title as the Queen of Rock-n-Roll. Her life story is a captivating tour de force, inspiring the 1993 film ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It? ‘, Based on her autobiography I, Tina.
Starring Angela Bassett as Tina and Laurence Fishburne, the film was both a commercial and critical success, earning the lead actress a Golden Globe as well as an Academy Award nomination. While a majority of re-recordings from the early part of her career with her ex-husband, the soundtrack (released through Parlophone) went multi-platinum in multiple countries around the world.
In celebration of the film’s 30th Anniversary, a special Four disc deluxe edition of the soundtrack was released on 26 April.

Disc one is the original remastered soundtrack, including “Shake a Tailfeather” and “Tina’s Wish,” initially omitted from the original US release.
Disc 2 features edits, remixes, and an acapella version of both “What Must We Wait Until Tonight?” and “Proud Mary,” with the bass vocal performed by Timmy Cappello.
Discs 3 and 4 feature Tina’s live show at the Blockbuster Pavilion in 1993, which has also been remastered, as well as three music videos: “I Don’t Wanna Fight,” “Disco Inferno” (which was previously unreleased), and “Why Must We Wait Until Tonight?”
As a lifelong fan of Tina Tuner, I pre-ordered this album on Amazon the moment I saw it. Priced under $50 – it’s incredibly well made. The outer box is a sleek and sturdy bright white embossed with gold text. Inside includes two separate wallet-style booklets, a poster, and a 24-page booklet.
More music reviews soon so…
Stay tuned!
