As I stated previously, the music of the DiC dub of Sailor Moon was one of its best parts. There was just something fun and magical about it. It fit. Composed by Bob Summers, the only officially released background music/score cues were included on the FULL MOON COLLECTION CD through KOCH Records / DiC Tune-Time Audio.
One of the my favorite moments of the series was Serena’s first transformation into Sailor Moon. I remember being so entranced by what I was seeing, and the music really stuck out to me. Unfortunately, that first transformation cue was never included in any of the official release.
However, in a thrilling turn of events in 2021, 26 years after the series first aired in the US, Project Sailor Scout unveiled a treasure trove of BGM/Score Cues from the personal collections of the original DiC dub composer, Bob Summers, and Music Supervisor Don Perry, through the official Project Sailor Scout YouTube page.

With a whopping 52 tracks, totaling just over 40 minutes, the first set of releases was a true feast for the ears. It included the familiar themes we all love as well as alternates and variations that were in all honesty, pretty great to listen to. However, to my great sadness, Sailor Moon’s first transformation was still notably absent. But then, in December 2022, a second set of tracks was unveiled, this time from the personal files of Andrew Dowler, the mastermind behind Negavision Fandubs.
In just under 30 minutes, the second set included the first transformation, several alternates, and the official US instrumental of the theme song. As an audiophile who usually writes to score pieces, I could not have been more excited 0, and there are some truly beautiful pieces of music within these two collections – “Sad Theme #3” is one of my personal favorites.
While doing these reviews, my curiosity got the better of me and I reached out to several composers, including Mr. Summers and Mr. Perry as well as Ronald Wasserman (RAW) and the signing voice of Sailor Moon herself, Jennifer Cihi, which means – There will be more Sailor Moon soon so…
Stay Tuned!
