Even before it was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature, the fantasy adventure / coming-of-age film Suzume was on my radar as a film I wanted to see as one of its voice actors was none other than Hokuto Matsumura (松村北斗) from the popular JPOP group SixTONES.

When it comes to physical media, as a collector, I prefer steelbook packaging – especially when it comes to anime television, and film. So, when Walmart announced an exclusive steelbook, I knew it was something that I wanted to add to my collection.

Produced by Crunchyroll, the three-disc set included a Blu-ray of the feature film and two DVDs that not only include the film but also a plethora of Special Features including An interview with director Makoto Shinkai (as well as his Commentary ) and a Filmography Recap. Radwimps interview, “The Making Of” Documentary, an alternate ending, special commemoration videos, promo videos, Teaser & Trailers, and a roundtable interview With Shinkai, Yojiro Noda & Kazuma Jinnai.

Presented in glorious 1080 HD, the Blu-ray includes audio tracks of both the Japanese cast, as well as an English dub and subtitles for both. When it comes to the outer case, stunning isn’t strong enough of a word to describe it. As a whole, anime is a beautiful art form, but there’s something incredibly beautiful about Suzume that sets it apart from the other films I’ve seen.

While the limited edition 3 disc version is currently sold out, you can order a 2 disc steelbook through Walmart.
