Trillion Game (トリリオンゲーム) is not a series I probably would have watched if it hadn’t starred Ren Meguro of the JPOP group Snow Man. A workplace drama about a sly young businessman whose only interest is to make a trillion dollars it doesn’t exactly fit with the rainbow kisses and unicorn stickers of series like Cutie Pie and Cherry Magic or even the first series I ever saw Meguro in, My Love Mix-Up. But, because he has one of the most enchanting smiles of any man I have ever seen on planet Earth, I had to see it.

Best. Decision. Ever.

Airing on TBS in Japan from 14 July – 15 September 2023, Trillion Game follows Haru Tennoji (Meguro) and his best friend Gaku Taira (Hayato Sano) as they form their own company, Trillion Game and Fake it ’till they make it in the cutthroat world of business. While the series is available for international viewers on Netflix, it is also now available on Blu-ray.

The special boxset, released through TCEntertainment is dual-sided and features two of the series’ most iconic promotional photos (including all of the stars in a money bath*). The inner case also features the character image of Haru and Gaku. Both are high quality and exquisitely printed. My one issue with the box is that, rather than a flip case for a disc holder, it is a flap that needs to be unlatched, and my copy sticks, which makes me very nervous about pulling the disc out when I want to watch it. The first print of the set also includes a special 16-page photobook filled with promotional stills, character information, and behind-the-scenes images.

When it comes to the discs themselves, all 10 episodes are on 3 discs, that have an aspect ratio of 16:9. Region-free, the single-sided/dual-layered Blu-ray disc is presented in glorious 1080 HD with Japanese subtitles (no English subtitles are included on this release) while a fourth disc includes the following bonus features: A promotional program, press conference footage, wrap ups, interview footage, behind the scenes of the poster photoshoot, and promo clips.

While the $197.25 price tag is steep, if you’re a fan of Meguro, it’s worth it and you can purchase a copy of the boxset wherever Japanese music and movies are sold, including CD JAPAN

Trillion Game will see a sequel in the form of a feature film to be released in 2025.
