For being such a relatively new company, Thai production house Be On Cloud has done some truly incredible work. Their first series, KinnPorsche released in 2022 received international acclaim and turned the entire BL genre on its head. Their latest series Dead Friend Forever – DFF (เพื่อน ตาย DFF) gave the genre something new with a horror story developed

Their newest release, the feature film Man Suang (แมนสรวง) is nothing short of cinematic magic. The film, released theatrically in 2023, stars Nattawin Wattanagitiphat (APPO) as Khem, a low-born orphan who, with his best friend Wan (Asavapatr Ponpiboon, Bas), takes on the mission to steal important documents hidden inside “Man Suang”, the most luxurious and mysterious entertainment club in Siam.

A beautiful man and gifted dancer, Khem becomes a popular attraction at the club. Wan is plagued by horrific memories and is easily triggered. Luckily, Khem meets Chata, played by Appo’s KinnPorsche love interest Mile (Phakphum Romsaithong). Not only do the two continue the mission, but also plant the seeds of romance – which will continue in a follow-up series Shine coming later this year.

The film touches on subjects like homophobia and racism while weaving a fanatic story, that while based on historical fact – is total fiction. The costumes, the sets, the make-up – the entire production pulls out all the stops. It’s hard to believe how new the company is, but goes to show what can be achieved when you focus on quality – not quantity. 

As an actor, there is something incredibly fascinating about Apo. In KinnPorsche he went from a wiseass punk to a caring brother and skilled fighter in the blink of an eye. He was hard and tough – not the type of man you’d wanna be on the wrong side of in a dark alley. But in Man Suang he is so vulnerable and beautifully broken. He’s an absolute pleasure to watch.

One of the biggest treats in the film is Thanayut Thakoonauttaya (Tong) who plays the aristocratic owner of Man Suang, Hong. Like Apo, he has incredible range. His character in KinnPorsche (Tankhun) was absolutely insane. Hong, however, is cool, calm, and conniving. He’s brilliant. 

Man Suang can currently be viewed on Netflix while both KinnPorsche and Dead Friend Forever are on the iQiyi app. I cannot recommend this film and series enough – as well as the company’s 2023 reality series The Hidden Character, where they held competitions to cast Dead Friend Forever. Production has also started on their next series 4 Minutes.
