Netflix has been on fire lately, especially when it comes to modern fantasies.
A modern fairytale, Elodie (Millie Bobby Brown) is the daughter of Lord Bayford (Ray Winstone). They reside with her younger sister Floria (Brooke Carter) and their step mother (Angela Bassett) in a a poor, barren part of the kingdom in desperate need of money and resources. Salvation comes in the worm of a proposal from Queen Isabelle of Aurea (Robin Wright) for Elodie to marry her son, Prince Henry (Nick Robinson).

Putting the wellbeing of her own people above her own happiness, Elodie accepts the proposal and agrees to marry the handsome Henry. But the royal wedding isn’t just a fancy part and night of fun in the royal bedchamber. A much more sinister type of ceremony awaits the young princess on her wedding night when she discovers that she is thrown into the cavern of a dragon (Shohreh Aghdashloo ) – a sacrifice to beast to ensure the the kingdom remains safe.
Discovering she is only the latest in a long-line of sacrifices, Elodie takes on the beast head on with her courage and wit.

Written by Dan Mazeau (based on an original story) the music of this epic fantasy was composed by David Fleming and produced by Hans Zimmer. Sweeping and fantastical the score calls back to blockbusters like The Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Rings – and It’s absolutely beautiful.
It’s not the most amazing story, but it is a lot of fun.
