There is a beautiful theatricality to the series 180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us. It’s one of the best I’ve ever seen. So, I was elated when I discovered a Japanese box set had been released – and I leaped at the chance to own this genre-shifting series.

Originally airing Aug 14, 2022 – Oct 2, 2022, on GMM One in Thailand, the series stars Ponlawit Ketprapakorn (Pond) as Wang, a young man struggling to figure out who is he and where he belongs, including his place in the life of his overbearing mother, Sasiwimol, played by the iconic Kathaleeya McIntosh (Nam), a television director. Enter, Nitidon Pomsuwan (Nike) as Sasiwimol, the childhood friend of Sasi, and Wang’s father.

Are They Out of the Woods Yet? Wang and Sasiwimol

In an attempt to become closer to her growingly distant sun, Sasiwimol invites Wang with her on a vacation before a prestigious award show she’s been nominated for as a director. Thanks to Wang and his impulsive nature, the two get lost, but, almost as if driven by fate, stumble upon a beautiful home in the middle of nowhere owned by In. Shocked to see his old friend, the handsome architect, invite the wandering director and her son to stay with him for a few days.

While assisting to build a bridge for villagers, In is injured, which leads Wang to want to stay and take care of him, while Sasi continues to the city for the ceremony. He knows very little about the life of his father and is excited to hear about him from someone he’s being told was his best friend growing up. But in truth, In was much, much more. As secrets are revealed, old wounds, both emotional and physical are re-opened and the more Wang learns about his father, the more he realizes that they have been more alike than he ever dreamed possible.
