Belinda Carlisle is one of the most recognizable voices in pop music. She made history as the lead singer for the world’s first all-girl punk band The Go-Go’s, then turned around and released hit after hit for years – most recently with the lead single “Big Big Love” from her 2023 EP Kismet. To celebrate this amazing woman with a truly astonishing career, Edsel Records (also known as Demon Music group) has started releasing a set called Belinda Carlisle: Decades – after the success of her world tour in 2022-2023. Volume 1, released on 21 June 2023 contains Belinda’s first four studio albums:
Belinda (1986), which includes the hit “Mad About You,” Heaven On Earth (1987) which boasts several hits including “Heaven is a Place on Earth”, “Circle in the Sand”, and “I Get Weak,” Runaway Horses (1989), which features “Leave a Light on For Me”, “Summer Rain”, “Circle in the Sand”, and “La Luna”, and finally, Live Your Life Be Free (1991) which may not have been a chart-topper, but does include some great songs including the title track, “I Please in Sanity” and the ultimate break up song “You’re Nothing Without Me”.

Housed in a study, and beautifully printed, media book, the set comes with a 36-page booklet that includes lyrics, credits, photos, and annotations for each album. Everything about the set is beautiful, I love the ombre coloring of the disc and images, they’re hi-resolution, glossy, and gorgeous! The one exception is the typeface of the booklet. The justify formatting leaves for extra spacing which makes an otherwise gorgeous set look unprofessional, and a cash grab after the success of the Decades Tour from 2022-2023. Unlike other reissues from edsel, the albums contained in Decades Volume 1 are just the standard release versions of each of the albums. It’s a set created simply for her most die-hard fans – of which I have been my entire life.
