Ever since discovering Snow Man, I’ve often wondered about what a date with one of them would be like. With the release of the newest music video “We’ll go together,” I no longer have to wonder, because they’ve shown me, and they’ve done so through the viewer’s (my) perspective!
Watanabe takes us to a high-end private restaurant for a very classy (and probably very expensive) meal while Meguro has rented out an entire planetarium so that we can enjoy the stars together. Abe-chan takes us to his favorite coffee spot for a romantic walk around the city while Iwamoto takes us to an amusement park after a ride on his motorcycle. We go city camping with Mukai on the top of a building where we can look out at the breathtaking skyline of the city while it’s an evening of art, literature, and stimulating conversation with Miyadate.
Fukazawa buys snacks and is goofy and adorable while putting his life in my hands as I drive us around the city (good lucky buddy) while it’s a bit more subdued and definitely safer with the group’s remaining two members. Raul prepares a delicious home-cooked meal while I capture his cuteness on camera while Sakuma and I enjoy an emotional drama on television, again from the safety of the apartment.
It’s the perfect theme song for Watanabe’s romantic drama Sensei Sayonara (English: Goodbye Teacher) about a man who falls in love with the same woman in two different lifetimes.
What I love about this video is that it is shot from the point of view of the watcher, so the “date” that the guys are on, can be with anyone – male, female, or whatever gender you, as the one enjoying their music video, identify as. In this ever-changing world, the group doesn’t limit themselves. They allow us, whoever we are, to embrace the fantasy.
They are a group that respects and embraces the love of all their fans, and this isn’t the first time they’ve made this simple, but very important type of statement, they’ve been doing it the whole time, so it’s something that feels genuine rather than topical and it’s one of the reasons why I love them so much. I know the odds that I’ll ever go on a date with any of them will never be in my favor, but, they give me (and all their fans) the next best thing. So the joys of the fantasy live on.
The second available release from Snow Man’s upcoming double A-side 10th single, this cute and catchy track plays off the romantic feel of the season of love – a perfect play on the fact that its physical release date is 14 February – the most romantic day of the year!
