Princess TuTu is one of my most favorite anime series. I first discovered this epic fantasy when I was at my very first anime convention on tour with my debut novel. Though the novel was a horrendous flop (thanks to the mismanagement of the publishing house), touring the country was an incredible experience I wouldn’t change for the world.

Set against the backdrop of the world of ballet, Princess TuTu follows Duck, an awkward young girl with an epic mission. Once long ago, a magical writer named Drosselmeyer died before he could finish a story he was writing about a heroic prince who was fighting an evil raven. Somehow, the characters bled out into the real world. To keep the raven sealed away, the prince shattered his heart with his own sword to ensure the raven remained sealed away. In doing so he lost all his memories, and access to his emotions. It’s up to Duck to find the prince, restore his shattered heart, and return the world to normal.

The 26-episodes series originally aired from August 2002 to May 2003 and has been hailed by many as a modern classic. So, when I discovered a special collector’s steelbook edition, I rushed to get it!

Artwork: This set is STUNNING! First, the outer slipcase is flexible but sturdy, and beautifully printed. The SteelBook case itself, also sturdy, is smooth, and also gorgeously printed.

Specs: Presented in stunning 1080 HD, all twenty-six episodes of the series include both English and Japanese languages (with English Subtitles). Special features include: Clean Opening Animation; Clean Closing Animation; TV Specials; Outtakes; Ballet For Beginners; Etude; In The Studio; Chapter Of The Egg Suite [New Year’s Special #1]; Mr Cats Love Lesson [New Year’s Special #2]; Vorfinale [TV Special #3]; The Path To Tutu (text); Staff & Voice Actor Commentary; Japanese Pre-Production Promotional Video.

Currently on sales from Sentai Filmworks for $38.99 (regular prince $129.98) it’s a wonderful addition to any collection.
