When it comes to movies, Blue Beetle was one of the surprise hits of the summer.
Grossing over $129 million, the film centers on Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña), a recent college graduate who wants to help pay off his family’s debt. His goal is to work at Kord Industries, however, he finds himself in the middle of a power struggle between Victoria Kord (Susan Sarandon) the current CEO of the company, and her niece Jenny (Bruna Marquezine), who is devastated to discover her aunt is using the company to create the One Man Army Corps (OMAC). At the wrong place at the wrong time, Jaime is given the Scarab, an ancient artifact with supernatural powers, which transforms him into a superhero. Hilarity and heartbreak ensue as Jaime masters his new powers and the responsibilities that come with them.

Recently I’ve started to collect steelbook versions of some of my favorite films – especially those related to the DCEU. So, when I saw the Walmart exclusive, I knew I had to have it!

The Artwork: One of my favorite things about this entire film was its hard lean into synth-pop. This truly outrageous cover art, with its incredible colours is lightweight but sturdy, with a mat finish. Though the inside isn’t as bright as the picture above, the outer image is. It’s brilliant.
The specs: the 0.40 x 5.40 x 6.80 Inches set includes a Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Copy. In addition to the film (clocking in at around 127 minutes), the special features included are: The Production Begins: A behind the scenes featurette including portions of the table read, A Hero’s World, which gives a glimpse into the world Jaime Reyes inhabits with his family, Origins, which explores the history of the character and more.
Though the set has been sold out almost since its release, if you can find it, it’s a great set to have.
More Film reviews soon so…
