When I first fell into the wonderland of Asian dramas, I was primarily focused on those within the BL genre. Then I discovered My Love from the Star (Korean: 별에서 온 그대).

Starring the incomparable, and hilarious Ji-hyun Jun, this is hands down one of my most favorite television series ever.
Jun portrays a ditzy actress, Song-yi Cheon who after a series of mishaps finds herself taking a college course taught by Min-Joon Do (Soo-hyun Kim), an alien who was left on earth 400 years ago because he missed the departure of his ship do to the fact that he was saving the life of a human. Song-Yi is the reincarnation of that human.
But this is more than just a star-crossed love story. Set in the world of K-Dramas itself, the 21-episode series is filled with fun, fantasy, backstabbing friends, love triangles, and even a murder mystery. Not to mention one of the series-opening scenes features the jacked (and incredibly beautiful Soo-hyun Kim in a steaming hot shower.
Originally airing December 18, 2013 – February 27, 2014, on SBS TV in Korea, a Blu-ray boxset was announced shortly after the series wrapped. As I didn’t discover the series until nearly eight years after its original run, I figured it wouldn’t be something I’d be able to own. However, thanks to KOREA POP not only was able to find a copy of the series, but it was still shrink-wrapped.

The 12-disc set contains all 21 episodes in glorious 1080 HD as well as a plethora of extras including Interviews, Making of mini-documentaries, Behind Scenes, the Press Conference, Making of the OST, Cut Scenes, Commentary, and Music Videos. There are also postcards and a photo book, all housed in an amazingly sturdy case. Needless to say, I couldn’t be happier.
Was it pricy? Yes. But the staff of KPOP were incredibly to work with and honestly, with as long as I’ve been waiting to find this set, it was worth every single penny.
More My Love from the Star soon, including interview soon so…
Stay Tuned!
