A fierce fable lead, a handsome devil as a male lead, and magic make the new Netflix K-Drama My Demon (마이데몬) an interesting and intriguing winter romance.
The confident and business-minded Do-Hee Do (Yoo-Jung Kim) is the heir apparent to the Mirae (Future) Group, despite not being blood-related to its current Queen, the Almighty Ju (Hae-Sook Kim). Which causes tension for the Almighty’s blood (but mostly useless) family members. Centuries-old, Gu-Won Jung (Kang Song) is a demon who makes deals with downtrodden humans in exchange for their souls. For more than 200 hundred years, he’s been the hunter, feeding off their souls in exchange for a decade of good fortune.
He’s ruthless and unforgiving as he views humans as lower life forms. That is until he meets Do-Hee who believes they have been set up on a blind date by the Almighty Ju. She thinks he’s arrogant, he thinks she’s ridiculous. It’s loathing, pure unadulterated loathing.

After spending the rest of her birthday at the beach, Do-Hee calls an Uber, but the driver attacks her. When Gu-Won appears, he says he’ll only help her if he enters into a deal with her. Normally, she would look over a contract before signing and normally he would sign the contract before fulfilling his end of the deal, however, in this instance both make hasty choices against the norm.
But something goes wrong. Unable to use his powers to save them, both fall into the river. Instead of Gu-Won saving Do-Hee, she saves him. As a result, Do-Hee ends up with all of Gu-Won’s powers. His powers are the only thing that keeps the demon from bursting into flames and sizzling out of existence. Without them, it’s only a matter of time before he vanishes completely.
But the couple have more to worry about than the “Freaky Friday” Magical switch. Undefeated, Do-Hee’s attacker remains at large and he’s got a vendetta. He’s going to kill her.
Since the 2015 romantic comedy Hello, Spring Kang Song has been a leading man who is equal parts charm and heart with a pinch of dangerous darkness sprinkled in for taste. At the same time, Yoo-Jung Kim is a formidable actress who commands the audience’s attention whenever she is on the screen. She’s described by one of the characters in the very first scene as “a devil in Hermes” and the description couldn’t be more accurate. Do-Hee is a strong, complex, and very interesting character.
The series’ opening theme “Our Night is more Beautiful than Your Day” performed by KPOP supergroup NewJeans is beautifully haunting and was a perfect choice for the series.
The series is currently airing on Netflix, there will be more MY DEMON soon so…
