With so many GMMTV titles coming to Rakuten Viki I wanted to take the month of November and do a rewatch. See what (and who) I’ve missed seeing on my screen every week. First up is the 2022 romantic slice-of-life dramedy Star in My Mind.
The series launched the ship of Natachai Boonprasert (Dunk) and Archen Aydin (Joong) in his first role after signing with GMMTV and was the last character of Jirakit Thawornwong (Mek) played before he left the company. Directed by Siwaj Sawatmaneekul (Until We Meet Again, Between Us) the series also featured some familiar faces from Wabi Sabi series including Samantha Melanie Coates (Sammy) and Patsit Permpoonsavat (Yacht) as well as other GMMTV Staples like Chinnarat Siriphongchawalit (Mike), Rutricha Phapakithi (Ciize), and Chayakorn Jutamas (JJ). It also did a test run of the newly-built ship Thanawin Pholcharoenrat (Winny) and Kittiphop Sereevichayasawat (Satang) as the side couple.
Daonuea (Dunk)had a crush on Khabkluen (Joong) in high school and confessed his feelings on his last day at school before moving to Germany. However, the only response he got from Khabkluen was “Have a good flight.”

Three years later, Nuea has returned to Thailand and is a freshman at the university going into Fine Arts. However, he and his best friend Tingting (Ciize) are both late for a meeting revolving around the Freshy Boy & Girl Talent Show. When Nuea arrives he’s surprised to see Kluen, (who has gone into dentistry) and pretends not to know/remember him which confuses Kluen and makes things awkward when the two discover they will be sharing a dorm for the first few weeks of class.
In truth, of course, Nuea remembers everything about him from the number of his basketball jersey to what he likes for breakfast. He just decides to play cool (read: cruel) because he’s still too embarrassed over being rejected back in high school). He also gets even more embarrassed when he discovers that Kluen is still with his high school girlfriend Gia, played by Benyapa Jeenprasom (View).
Though it’s a rocky start, the episode ends with Nuea once again confessing his feelings for Kluen. But this time, Kluen tells him that he feels the same, and the two kiss.

Quick take: I had forgotten that this series was the first to introduce Winny and Satang (as side couple Ne and Sean) so it was lovely to see them. I also love seeing Sammy and as a whole, the pilot is fun. However, anyone who knows anything about BL dramas knows that there is something fishy with that kiss. There’s no way we’re going to see the main couple starting to sail off into the sunset in episode one. I don’t care how short the series is.
10/10
More Star in My Mind soon so…
Stay tuned!
